Sunday update 1/26/14

evening, Hope everyone is good.   52 days 15 hrs and 1 minute to spring.  but who is counting..

this past week again went by tooooo fast. so evenings and part of the weekend allowed some sand blasting and a bit of repairs to the frame and fenders, still have more to do prior to turning them over to Eric, but a little closer.

also started working on the cyls and valve job. put the heads and cyls on my lapping plate to see how the decks looked. off quite a bit. spent 2 hours hand lapping one of the cyls and made very little progress. gave a call to a friend at Empire fluid and asked about the use of there orbital lapping stand. within a hour was able to lap both cyls and both heads. pretty neat to have access to great equipment. THANK YOU GUYS..

Gary and Linda We are fine but it sure is getting to be a long winter. I have been spending very little time in the shop because we have enough LP left to get thru the winter but might not if I heat the shop. I am putting in another 1000 gallon tank in the spring that will allow we unlimited use in the future. I usually buy LP in the late spring when it is at its’ cheapest and then usually can get by a whole year.

I have been doing a few things on the bike at work – mostly small stuff. The chassis is all done except for some work on the footboards, clutch and brake controls and linkage rods. Engine I need to assemble, all the machining and truing is done. I haven’t started on the clutch or transmission yet but I have all the parts either new or very excellent used so that should be fairly easy. I have never done a clutch in a JD before so that is a little concerning but I am sure I will get it figured out.

Hope everything is good with the 2 of you. Jerry

Gary If this thing doesn’t “fly” it won’t be your fault. Thanks again for the progress updates. Ron and Dixie.
