Sunday 2/16/2014 GRAND YOUNG INS
evening , hope everyone is great.. we are good. weather was a lot more forgiving this week. 33 days to spring. Linda and I are pretty lucky in a lot of ways. one of them is grand kids, 8 remarkable young ins. you ll note some pretty silly things in this update and some less obvious things in the future,( so you guys might have to look harder) these little guys and gals need something to keep them interested. as i m sure this is pretty boring stuff. they are pretty good artists too.
this weeks after hours and weekend enabled us to repair some threads in fuel tanks, clean the insides and check an older repair for leaks. these fuel tanks are cast aluminum, Indian did this for only two years from my understanding. they are fairly heavy and for the most part are in pretty good shape.
i ll be taking them into town this week to drop off to Eric. during last week i dropped of the frame, fenders and some other parts. this 30 Indian is fairly close to being correct but is sure not a points judged bike. It is sure going to be a great rider though. still am a bit in awe that Eric has offered to give up his labors and materials expense to make her look better. (THANK YOU ERIC) i ve decided (after changing my mind a dozen times) to use the dark red/brown color in a satin and distressed look paint. heres Eric.
also started on the spark plug thread repairs to the heads. bought a heicoil repair kit (i ve used them a number of times in the past on different things. but after drilling to size and starting the thread tap the first three rolls of threads rolled on the tap. i put a file to the tap, and its pretty soft. prob. close to a grade 3 bolt. not sure what the deal is but it sure was not hardened, now after over sizing the hole i started the search for how to repair the threads. outfit out of Calif. sells and rents a positive lock thread repair so thats the direction i went.
some hot cylinders
a little help from one of Linda s friends
have a few threads to replace in the cases. i ll try heilcoil as i have some the right size.
Linda started making patterns for the sidecar interior today. hope to start on it as soon as the engine is back together.
another busy week coming up. hope to get the wheels cut apart and prep for paint. hope you all have a great week. laugh lots. SEE YA
