evening hope your all well. this last week the sidecar chassis parts from Dave in Canada were delivered. sand blasted them, and I ve got a ways to go. I ll be building a gig for the placement of mounts, spring pads and axle. then try to cut and remove extra added pads and tubes, to reuse the castings. more to come.
got to see Gene and Jim earlier this week. Gene met me at Woodys Wheels to help sort out my rim, hub and spoke dilemma, Jim was kind enough to loan a assortment of bearings, races and other parts. cant say enough about all the on going help I get from some very special folks. a bit more work on the sport scout hubs we,ll be using. one for our front brake and having the other laced to the sidecar wheel for an added brake. using tapered bearings. ways to go. more latter.
the rod races showed up. ran a bead in the one in question and removed it. went to Garys for honing the rod and race after it was pressed in. did the final honing to size on the races. there’s always a lot of great old iron in his shop. and he always takes the time to share his knowledge. thank you Gary, sure enjoy our time together.
I wont bore you with the blow by blow, putting together and taking apart, setting up and trueing the flywheels, but I will say if I was working by the hour we d have not ate very well over doing them. but they came out fairly good.
we took a similar photo of the JD cases prior to the 2012 Cannonball
the cases will be on and off a number of times during the output side end play and overall end play set ups.
prior to butting up the bottom end the cam side gear clearances in new bushings all need to be checked for end play .
also today Jeff, Rudy an Ron dropped by. Jeff brought his fresh built 41 knuck by. pretty sweet old bike with a ton of character. he did a great job on the engine. she does sound sweet.
till next week. hope you all the best health and happiness. LAUGH LOTS.. gary
