spent time on the valve train. cut the worn lobes off two cam gears. milled them to the needed height. pressed on a set of cam lobes that will hopefully be the ones used.

I had cleaned, ground, polished and removed the pitted and worn pins and rollers on lifters some time back. here are a few photos of installing the new shafts and rollers.

installed the lifter rollers, cams and gears. while rotating the engine I found in two areas the rockers were striking in the case allowing the roller to slap the cam instead of constant contact. so I removed a small amount of the case (used a black marker to show the two spots).

next was to measure the valve springs and see about clearance and amount of pressure on them. Thanks to Gene Harper I had new springs to work with. when all the measurements were added together I only had a range of .018 to .030 of additional crush before the springs would be completely collapsed. so I removed additional material from the face of the keepers to achieve having .060 on all four.

Gene Harper came down Sat. to again give a hand and share more of his knowledge. got the Magneto shimmed for gear lash, and Gene shared the workings of timing the mag. cam to match the same for firing front and rear cylinders. am pretty fortunate that he has taken the time to help with so many things to make this happen.
