Motorcycle Cannonball 2014 #57 Colorado

Monday 6/9/2014

morn n, hope everyone is good.    not a lot of head way this past week.  (making a live n gets in the way)  after the short run time a few things need to be looked at harder.  re checked the mag cam timing, re-adjusted the valves, and trying to figure the oiling and level. these cases did not have a inspection hole and marks for timing. while going thru the process of setting the magneto cam (that has two lobes, which opens and closes the points for spark) I used the hand oil pump line hole in the case to mark 7/16″ piston height to center punch the flywheels for the front and rear cylinders.  one good thing I ve done.. sure beats pulling it apart to check. the head configuration does not give you access to the top of the pistons.

also on Sat. we were invited to a British Motorcycle Assoc of Colorado meeting held at the new very nicely done Pikes Peak Motor Sports Dealer in Colorado Springs. we sat in on there meeting, that was done in a very orderly manor.  we got introduced as having done the 2012 Cannonball and doing this years Cannonball, I,m  in no way any type of speaker and get pretty tongue tided pretty easy. but I enjoyed sharing info and good times with them.  I know its not everyone’s cup of tea but am surprised at times how many folks that ride don’t know about it.  at the end of the meeting these folks passed the hat and the Club themselves match the collection and we were given a generous donation towards our adventure.  awfully great of these folks to help us along.  also this week we received help from Ron and Dixie Westervelt that we met at the start of the 2012 Cannonball. and again more generous help from Ron, Barb and everyone at Honest Accurate Auto Service East and West.  between family, friends and lovers of the cycle world we are certainly blessed.  THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH..  we’ll try not to disappoint you. till next week.  Laugh Lots.  gary

    Hi Gary and Linda,

Glad the “help” came through OK. Wish it could have been more. I love the warmer weather and don’t want to wish the summer away, but 9/5 will be here before we know it. Hope your progress on the `30 continues on or ahead of schedule and that you get a chance to test it thoroughly with the side hack. We are thinking of making a bit more of a trip of it and following from the start in FL to Tenn. We shall see. Yeah–make sure of the oil feed for sure! Best regards, Ron and Dixie
